Police shoot at fleeing vehicle during attempted traffic stop in Frederick

Frederick, Maryland.During an attempted traffic stop on a dead-end street early Saturday morning, a car accelerated at a Frederick Police Department officer, who then fired his pistol, according to police.

When officers responded to a call regarding a suspicious car in the 1300 block of Mulberry Court at approximately 2:50 a.m., the incident started. Police said the vehicle was connected to previous complaints of break-ins in the region.

The motorist disobeyed the officer’s attempts to halt the car and went onto Mulberry Court, which leads to a cul-de-sac. According to the police, the officer exited his patrol car and started giving orders.

The car then sped in the direction of the cop, and the officer pulled out his service pistol. After being hit by gunfire, the car left the area and was later found nearby vacant.

As of Saturday morning, the suspect or suspects are still at large, and neither the police nor any spectators were reported injured.

Under investigation by the sheriff’s office

To ensure objectivity, the inquiry has been taken over by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office. The agency described the shooting officer’s placement on administrative leave as “standard procedure.”

The Frederick Police Department says it is completely working with the sheriff’s inquiry in a social media message.

Neither the suspect vehicle’s description nor the officer’s identification have been made public by authorities.

Whether any arrests have been made or whether the break-ins earlier in the evening were unquestionably linked to the suspect vehicle have not been confirmed by the police.

According to the Frederick Police Department, more information will be released as the investigation develops.
