POMONA, N.Y.Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II said Tuesday that a Pomona man had been arrested and that cocaine, fentanyl tablets, and other substances had been seized as a result of a five-month investigation into drug sales in the Town of Haverstraw.
After a court-authorized search warrant was executed at his home on November 20, 40-year-old Richard Fernandez was charged with four charges of criminal possession of a controlled drug in the third degree and criminal sale of a controlled substance in the third degree.
Officials said that cocaine, fentanyl pills, and other pharmaceutical substances were found during the search by investigators from the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force.
According to Walsh’s comments, the opioid epidemic has been directly caused by the illicit distribution of fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid. Holding those responsible for trafficking these lethal chemicals accountable is a priority for my office.
The Haverstraw, Orangetown, and Clarkstown Police Departments, together with the Rockland County REACT Team, provided support for the investigation. Judge George G. Coffinas arraigned Fernandez in Haverstraw Justice Court that same day.
