Ladies, NYA A Flushing man who brutally murdered and sexually assaulted a 29-year-old woman in 2021 and tried to hide the crime from authorities was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

In October, Quiming Wan, 55, was found guilty of second-degree murder, aggravated sexual assault, and tampering with physical evidence related to Jiaomei Zhou’s death. After the jury’s verdict, Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Aloise imposed the sentence.

Police were called to Wan’s Main Street apartment on the evening of November 1, 2021, according to trial testimony, after residents stopped him in the lobby as he tried to take Zhou’s motionless body out of his apartment. Zhou was declared dead at the spot after being discovered unconscious with blood on her clothes.

Blood on doorframes, walls, and furniture, along with bloody rags and clothing hidden in a closet, were among the numerous pieces of evidence found during a search of Wan’s flat that connected him to the crime. When Wan was arrested, investigators also discovered blood on his clothing and body.

According to an autopsy, Zhou died from blunt force trauma brought on by repeated attacks with a blunt object, which resulted in serious internal damage.

“A dangerous person will now be sent to prison,” said District Attorney Melinda Katz, saying the act was extremely savage. “I hope this sentence provides some solace to the victim’s loved ones as they continue to grieve her loss.”
