Readington Township officials respond to illegal surveillance by Republican operatives

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. — Readington Township Mayor Adam Mueller and Deputy Mayor Vincent Panico have issued a joint statement in response to charges filed against two individuals accused of illegal surveillance. The officials addressed the discovery of a recording device at a local establishment where they routinely meet after public township meetings.

Christina Albrecht and Jacqueline Hindle are facing charges for allegedly violating the New Jersey Wiretapping and Electronic Surveillance Control Act. The charges follow an investigation into the presence of an unauthorized recording device found at the location.

“We are deeply troubled and saddened by the actions of those responsible for this gross violation of our privacy,” the officials said in their statement. “The discovery of this illegal recording device was a shocking invasion of our personal conversations. It’s disappointing that individuals have chosen such underhanded methods to monitor our discussions.”

They emphasized the importance of transparency in governance, while condemning the alleged surveillance as inappropriate. “The democratic process and public service require transparency and open dialogue, but the actions taken here are neither appropriate nor acceptable in any form of governance,” they said. “We will continue to serve Readington Township with the same dedication and integrity as before, standing firm in the face of such harassment.”

The officials also expressed gratitude to the Readington Township Police Department and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office for their swift action and investigation.
