Registered Camden Offender Trafficked Young Children for Sex in New Jersey and Philadelphia

Camden, New Jersey For his role in the sex trafficking of minors, 34-year-old Semaj A. Gilmore, a registered sex offender from Camden, was given a 260-month jail sentence today. The statement was made by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger during a hearing in federal court in Camden, when Gilmore entered a guilty plea to many offenses and U.S. Chief District Judge Rene Marie Bumb imposed the sentence.

Between September 2020 and April 2021, Gilmore engaged in criminal activity by transporting three children from Philadelphia to New Jersey with the specific goal of having them perform commercial sex acts. At the time of the crimes, all of the victims were younger than eighteen.

Following Gilmore’s previous conviction, which required him to register as a sex offender, this penalty follows.

According to the court documents, Gilmore took advantage of these children’s vulnerability for his own benefit by not only enabling but also directing their sexual exploitation for profit.

In order to guarantee ongoing monitoring of Gilmore’s activities upon his release from prison, he has also been sentenced to ten years of supervised release post-incarceration.

Special agents from the FBI’s South Jersey Resident Agency led the investigation that resulted in Gilmore’s arrest and conviction; U.S. Attorney Sellinger commended Special Agent in Charge Wayne A. Jacobs in Philadelphia for his efforts. The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the Mount Laurel Police Department also offered assistance, demonstrating the collaboration of multiple law enforcement organizations in tackling this serious problem.
