Retirees Receiving Final March Social Security Payment—April’s Schedule Revealed

The Social Security benefits for the month of March have come to an end for many households in the United States even though we have barely started the month. This is because the administration’s payment schedule follows a pattern that we cannot avoid.

Thus, if we have regular expenses to take into account, we must always organize ourselves around the day of Social Security collection. This will ensure that we always have the money available to pay our bills, our mortgage and our expenses such as shopping or gasoline.

However, there are some retirees who get paid almost at the end of the month. In this case, it is possible that we will need some kind of extra benefit, such as SNAP or SSI, in order to pay all the bills without having to delay those payments.

Last Social Security payment for a group

The group that receives the last of the Social Security payments this week in March is group 1 retirees. This group can get the payment on two different days depending on the collection method they choose. After getting this payment, the beneficiary will have to wait until April for a new check.

If we are part of group 1, that is, we have a benefit accepted from before May 1997, we can receive the March payment on:

  • March 3rd. If we have activated Direct Deposit, the payment arrives immediately.
  • March 4th, 5th or 6th. Without this method of collection the money may arrive a few days later. It usually takes a maximum of three days to appear in the checking account.

After that collection we will have to wait until April 3rd to be able to receive a new check. Therefore, it is important to always keep in mind that payments arrive from month to month and we must make a budget with the money we receive.

How to claim a late payment from Social Security?

Social Security payments do not usually arrive late, but if for some reason we do not receive the payment on the usual day, we should claim the payment. There are two steps to follow to claim late payments.

The first of these steps is to contact the bank. Our bank should be able to tell us if there is a problem with the Social Security check. It is also possible that the bank is withholding the money for many different reasons, such as if we have a debt.

If the bank cannot help us find out what has happened to our benefit, it is time to go to the Social Security Administration. They should be able to solve any problems related to the delay in our payments.
