Sacramento Mother Dead after Fatal Attack; Son Arrested for Alleged Murder as he Tried To Set Her on Fire Authorities 

An individual was taken into custody on Thursday for allegedly committing a homicide involving a family member in Sacramento County, near Galt.

A 29-year-old man named John Martinez has been arrested and charged with murder, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. The mother’s identity has not been disclosed, however, the sheriff’s office has confirmed that she is 64 years old.

Sgt. Amar Gandhi, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, reported that Martinez allegedly assaulted his mother with a shovel and then struck her with a vehicle. Gandhi attempted to set his mother on fire, but unfortunately, he did not succeed.

Gandhi initially stated that the woman’s demise may have been caused by blunt force trauma.

Deputies initially arrived at the 11500 block of Alta Mesa Road at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday. A worker spotted a woman lying down on the property and immediately called for assistance, according to Gandhi. The fire department promptly arrived and contacted the sheriff’s office.

According to authorities, the woman’s son remained inside the residence, declining to exit for an extended period of time. Eventually, he was apprehended at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The investigation into the homicide is still in progress.
