Schenectady officers and city officials join 2025 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics

N.Y. SCHENECTADY.This week, in support of Special Olympics New York, members of the Schenectady Police Department and the Mayor’s Office of the City of Schenectady took part in the 2025 Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The competition, which is a component of a yearly statewide relay, promotes support and exposure for athletes with intellectual disabilities. As the torch travels across New York, local law enforcement and city officials participated in the Schenectady leg of the run, carrying it through the city.

The local race was coordinated by Schenectady Police Department Sgt. Kyle Willetts, who was honored for his ongoing participation in Special Olympics events all year round.

The organizers expressed gratitude to Schenectady Police Sgt. Kyle Willetts for his assistance with Special Olympics events all year long in addition to organizing the marathon.

One important program that brings communities and law enforcement together to support Special Olympics athletes throughout the state and encourage inclusion is the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
