Wisconsin’s Sawyer CountyAs officials continue their hunt for a serial arsonist suspected of starting at least six fires in Sawyer County, Wisconsin, since November 18, residents are on edge. This typically tranquil area of northwest Wisconsin has been rocked by a recent spate of fires, which have damaged both residential and business properties. Local authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward because the firestarter is still at large.
Timeline of Fires Across Sawyer County
Three fires were reported during an eight-hour period on November 18, marking the start of the arson spree. Firefighters arrived at Weirgor Road in Radisson at 4:02 a.m. to react to a structure fire at an uninhabited property that was still under construction. The fire destroyed that building. At 4:10 a.m., just eight minutes later, a second fire started at a vacant house on Gueldners Lane in the town of Meteor, causing serious damage as well.
At 6:02 a.m., the Birchwood American Legion Post, situated on County Highway F in Edgewater, was the scene of the third fire of the morning. Luckily, no one was hurt because the facility was empty at the time.
Investigators connected the accused arsonist to other fires in the days that followed. The same person was suspected of starting the fire at the DJ’s Mart gas station in Radisson on November 23. The arsonist has since been implicated in two further fires.
Surveillance Video Released in Search for Suspect
Although the security film does not show the suspect’s face clearly, it was made public by the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office to help in the investigation. In the video, a person wearing khaki cargo trousers and a black hooded hoodie is seen leaving one of the fire scenes. Authorities are hopeful that someone will be able to identify the person based on their look or attire.
“We are committed to protecting our community and bringing those responsible for these dangerous acts to justice,” Sheriff Foug Mrotek said, underscoring the significance of community collaboration in apprehending the arsonist. We encourage anyone with information to come forward, regardless of how trivial it may seem.

Both the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation have contributed to the fire investigation. Authorities are making every effort to find the culprit and stop additional harm.
The tip line established for this investigation is 844-267-0711; anyone with knowledge on the fires is asked to call.
