NEW YORK, After conducting another violent heist in New York while on parole, a serial bank robber from New York is returning to prison. Gerald DeRosse, 55, choked an elderly customer while stealing $205 from a bank in Queens. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York announced on Tuesday that he had been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison.
After serving a 13-year term for a prior bank heist, DeRosse was currently on parole. Just one month prior to the August 6, 2023, robbery at Ridgewood Savings Bank in Glendale, Queens, he was freed from state jail.
A Violent Robbery at Ridgewood Savings Bank
DeRosse went into the Ridgewood Savings Bank location on Myrtle Avenue on the day of the heist. Taking an elderly customer by the neck, he threatened to use violence against her if the bank teller did not cooperate. DeRosse made the teller hand him $205 in cash while yelling that he will blow her f***ing brains out.
After escaping the scene of the robbery, DeRosse was apprehended by the FBI following an investigation. According to authorities, his violent acts had a long-lasting effect on the victims, especially the elderly woman he choked.

DeRosse has committed crimes for a long time. He has been found guilty of robbery-related offenses at least seven times prior to this most recent heist. Just one month before the Ridgewood heist, he was released from a 13-year prison sentence for a prior conviction for bank robbery.
FBI Assistant Director in Charge James Dennehy remarked, “Gerald DeRosse terrorized our city once again while on parole for a previous bank robbery, in which he used an innocent bystander as collateral to ensure his demands were met.”
