Serial sex abuse suspect arrested in D.C. after years-long investigation

Washington, D.C. The arrest of a man connected to three years’ worth of sexual assaults was reported by Metropolitan Police on Thursday, signaling a significant development in a well-publicized case.

On Wednesday, November 20, Uwana Ubom, 33, of Northwest D.C., was taken into custody by detectives from MPD’s Sexual Assault Unit. He was charged with several charges, including assault with intent to conduct sexual abuse, third-degree sexual abuse, and first-degree sexual abuse. Twelve cases involving claims of forced sexual intercourse, some at gunpoint, were reported between 2021 and 2024 and are the basis for the charges.

He allegedly used a firearm to coerce victims into complying in multiple cases by brandishing it or making threats about it.

Ubom was arrested as a result of a thorough investigation carried out by MPD detectives with support from the U.S. Marshals Service, FBI Washington Field Office, and U.S. Attorney’s Office. In the event that he is linked to any other unreported crimes, police are also making his picture public.
