Dodge City, KS – A severe thunderstorm warning is active for parts of south-central Kansas, including southeastern Kiowa, west-central Barber, and Comanche counties. The National Weather Service in Dodge City issued the alert at 1:28 p.m. CDT on Monday, urging residents to take shelter immediately.
According to NWS, the storm was near Wilmore and Buttermilk, moving east at 25 mph with 60 mph wind gusts and hail the size of quarters. Radar reports indicate a strong potential for damage to vehicles, roofs, siding, and trees from both hail and wind. The storm is expected to pass through the area by 2:15 p.m. CDT.
Residents are advised to stay indoors, preferably in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, to avoid injury from the storm. As the severe weather moves through, NWS emphasizes that conditions could change rapidly.
