Severe Thunderstorm Watch in West Central Texas: Hail, High Winds, and Tornadoes Possible



Abilene, TX – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for parts of West Central Texas, effective until 5 p.m. CST on Sunday. Affected areas include Brown, Callahan, Coleman, Haskell, Jones, Runnels, Shackelford, Taylor, and Throckmorton counties, as well as surrounding regions.

According to the NWS, the storms could bring hail up to two inches in diameter, with wind gusts reaching 70 mph. The agency warns that scattered severe thunderstorms are likely, and isolated tornadoes could develop. Nearly 750,000 people reside in the watch area, impacting over 450 schools and nearly 50 hospitals.

Residents are advised to stay updated and take precautions, as these conditions can cause property damage and power outages. The NWS recommends securing outdoor items and having a safe shelter plan. This alert follows recent severe weather patterns impacting parts of Texas and the surrounding areas.

The watch remains in effect until 5 p.m., with updates available on the National Weather Service’s website and social media channels.
