Sewage Backup, Leaks, and More Hernando Burger King Closed Temporarily After Inspection

Residents of Florida seeking quick and affordable dining options have a wide array of fast food establishments available to them, though not every chain originates from the Sunshine State. Burger King originated in Jacksonville and has its headquarters in Miami. Regrettably, a Burger King establishment in Hernando, Citrus County, has been temporarily closed following a state inspection.

Originating in the 1950s, this fast-food chain was initially known as Insta-Burger King in Florida. It’s likely easy to deduce that it gained momentum and became ingrained within popular culture with the launch of the Whopper.

With approximately 506 locations across the state, many residents of Florida can easily find a Burger King to satisfy their cravings.

Recently, Florida has seen a decline in some of the chain’s locations. In 2023, the company revealed plans to shut down numerous locations. I discussed the closure of two long-standing stores in Jacksonville, Florida, that had been part of the community for many years.

The Burger King located at 635 W Norvell Bryant Highway has received a rating of 3.3 out of 5 stars on Google reviews. There were several issues raised regarding the quality of customer service and the accuracy of orders.

Inspection Details

An inspection took place on September 10, 2024, as reported by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. During that period, five infractions were observed.

Instances of fundamental infractions included a dumpster brimming with refuse, water dripping from the ceiling in the dining area, which was cordoned off with buckets to collect the leakage, a dirty floor, and pools of stagnant water.

A significant issue arose due to the backup of raw sewage and wastewater through a kitchen floor drain. Reports indicate that employees were seen traversing wastewater while preparing orders.

The establishment faced a temporary closure due to certain infractions earlier.

During a subsequent inspection on September 11, 2024, one violation persisted; however, the restaurant complied with inspection standards and was allowed to resume operations.

The restaurant has faced closures before. It ultimately came to a close in June of 2015.

It’s important to understand that an inspection reflects just a single moment and may not accurately represent a restaurant’s daily operations.
