Should New York AG Tish James Be Disbarred Over Political Lawfare Against Trump?

Republican Representative Claudia Tenney criticized New York Attorney General Letitia James, arguing that James should lose her law license over her legal actions against former President Donald Trump. Tenney made her comments on Fox Business Network, accusing James of using her office to unfairly target Trump, whom she claims has been wrongfully pursued by state officials in New York and Georgia. Tenney contrasted Trump’s restraint in not prosecuting his political opponents during his presidency with what she described as a “shameful” campaign by James to discredit him.

James, who called Trump an “illegitimate president” during her 2018 campaign, filed a lawsuit against him in 2022, alleging that he inflated the value of his properties to secure loans. Judge Arthur Engoron ruled against Trump, setting penalties that could cost him over $450 million. Tenney contended that Engoron’s valuation of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate was far too low, aligning with real-estate experts who claimed it could be worth over $250 million. Trump has since posted a $175 million bond to appeal the ruling after it was reduced by a New York appeals court.

Should New York AG Tish James Be Disbarred Over Political Lawfare Against Trump?

Republican Rep. Claudia Tenney of New York blasted Democratic Attorney General Letitia James of New York Monday, saying that James deserved to lose her ability to practice law over her case against President-elect Donald Trump.

Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris last week, securing more than the 270 electoral votes necessary to win the presidency. During an appearance on the Fox Business Network, Tenney accused James of trying to “take Trump out.”

“[Trump] could have done all kinds of things. He could have referred Hillary Clinton, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, all those people, [James] Comey, everybody, he did not do that. And who’s the one that didn’t make [the] enemies list and didn’t prosecute people who committed actual crimes?” Tenney told host Larry Kudlow, a former Trump administration official. “Instead of using all these people, these state operators like in Georgia, New York State, the… shameless, shameful, shameless Letitia James and all these people trying to take Trump out now.”

“Those people, actually, Letitia James needs to be disbarred and removed from office for the kind of behavior we’re seeing out of her, and I’m a member of the New York bar and it’s just shameful,” Tenney continued.

James, during her 2018 campaign for the office, promised to investigate Trump. She labeled him an “illegitimate president.” James sued Trump in September 2022, alleging he overstated the value of real estate holdings in order to obtain loans.

Real-estate experts told the Daily Caller News Foundation that New York Judge Arthur Engoron’s ruling greatly undervalued Mar-a-Lago, the Florida estate owned by Trump, which some considered to be worth more than $250 million. Engoron ruled Feb. 16 that Trump was to pay $354 million, with additional penalties pushing the total amount owed to over $450 million.
