ALBANY, N.Y.Due to weather-related limitations, icy conditions, and many crashes on major highways, drivers in New York State faced significant travel obstacles Monday morning.
As of 7:48 a.m., after overnight snowfall, plow and salting operations were in progress on the New York State Thruway (I-90) between Junius and Victor and between Canastota and Van Buren. On I-86 and I-90, weather-related truck restrictions persisted. Pennsylvania officials prohibited empty and double commercial vehicles from entering New York because of the predicted circumstances.
Commutes were made more difficult by crashes, such as a significant event involving icy roads on NY 386 between Greece and Gates that resulted in the closure of all lanes. Two right lanes were blocked by an overturned vehicle on the Cross Island Parkway in New York, and there were more collisions on the NYS Thruway near Exit 40 in Mentz and Exit 33 in Verona.
Lane closures on the Queensboro Bridge, Williamsburg Bridge, and several state roadways, including NY 5, US 20, and NY 481, were caused by construction projects, which further prolonged the delays. Drivers heading to the Bronx experienced delays as a result of the closure of one left lane on the Henry Hudson Bridge northbound.
Issues with river crossings also included continuing construction on the Williamsburg and Queensboro Bridges and delays caused by crashes on Franklin D. Roosevelt Drive close to the Long Island Expressway.
