Somerville man charged with aggravated assault on Newark officer during drag racing stop




Newark, New Jersey.After allegedly hurting a Newark police officer while trying to escape the scene of a drag racing incident early on Sunday morning, an 18-year-old Somerville man was taken into custody.

Wyatt Bowden was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, evading, and possessing a weapon (car), according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. Officers responded to allegations of erratic driving at Frelinghuysen Avenue and Miller Street at approximately 1:02 a.m.

As policemen arrived, people started to leave the area, according to the police. Bowden allegedly ran over the foot of a Newark police officer while trying to flee in his car. After being taken to University Hospital, the injured officer’s status is classified as stable.
