ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Authorities said Thursday that they had taken into custody a second suspect in the August shooting that claimed the life of 13-year-old Michael Tubb and injured another adolescent.
A number of felonies, including an open count of first-degree murder, have been brought against 21-year-old Thomas Acee after his arrest on December 5. According to investigators, on August 18, Acee opened fire on a car in Downtown Albuquerque, close to 4th Street SW and Atlantic Avenue SW. Michael Tubb, a passenger, was killed and the driver was injured when gunshots struck the car, which was being driven by a 17-year-old female.
Acee’s arrest comes after 22-year-old Michael Flores was arrested on November 13. Flores is also charged with first-degree murder on an open count. Since then, investigators have concluded that Acee and Flores were together at the time of the incident.
Acee is the son of FBI Special Agent Bryan Acee, a well-known local figure who sometimes addresses the media on crime-related subjects, according to local news agencies.
The Metropolitan Detention Center is where both suspects are being detained. The investigation is still underway, and police have not revealed a motive for the shooting.
