South Dakota Weather: Weekend Warm-Up Brings Melting Snow, But Freezing Nights Pose Hazard

Sioux Falls, South DakotaSouth Dakota residents should brace themselves for ice conditions overnight, but warmer temperatures are expected this weekend. Although daytime highs will rise above freezing, melting snow may cause dangerous conditions by refreezing on sidewalks and roadways.

The National Weather Service predicts that Sunday will be primarily sunny with a high of about 49 degrees Fahrenheit in Sioux Falls. But evening lows of 32 F will raise the possibility of frost spots on exposed surfaces. Even though it will be milder on Monday—it will reach 55 degrees—gusty winds of up to 25 miles per hour could make it feel colder.

The sky will be largely bright on Tuesday, with a high of about 53 degrees Fahrenheit. There is a minor possibility of rain on Tuesday evening. By early Wednesday morning, slick conditions could result from a 30% chance of precipitation.

Residents should be cautious when driving in the early morning and at night since melting snow may refreeze and cause slick roads. Throughout the week, warmer temperatures are predicted, with highs in the 50s and primarily dry conditions.

To guarantee safe travel this week, keep abreast of local predictions and road conditions.
