Detroit Beginning Thursday, an MIA mix of rain and snow is predicted for Southeast Michigan, which could cause problems for commuting. Rainfall is expected Wednesday afternoon due to a low-pressure system passing across the area, followed by snow showers overnight and Thursday morning.
As colder air moves into the region, the National Weather Service (NWS) predicts snowfall totals of up to one inch, especially north of I-94. On Thursday, the period from 7 a.m. to noon is predicted to see the most snowfall. During the morning commute, drivers on I-75 and other major roads should be ready for slick or rainy weather.
Overnight lows will drop to 34 degrees, while Thursday’s high will reach 43 degrees. Conditions could feel colder due to gusts of up to 22 mph winds. Although there is a danger of rain again on Friday, there will be some respite as temperatures rise to the upper 40s.
Anticipate largely cloudy skies with highs close to 47 degrees on Saturday. Similar weather is expected on Sunday, with highs in the mid-40s and continued dryness.
In addition to keeping an eye out for updates on road conditions and any weather advisories, residents are encouraged to make sure their cars are prepared for winter driving. To be safe, avoid making needless trips when it’s snowing.
