Stamford Police receive traffic safety award for Vision Zero initiatives

STAMFORD, CT — The Stamford Police Department and the City of Stamford were honored with a gold award for their traffic safety efforts at a ceremony hosted by AAA Northeast on Friday, November 8. The event, which had been paused for four years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, recognized municipalities for their work in improving road safety.

The award highlights Stamford’s commitment to the Vision Zero initiative, a comprehensive approach aimed at eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries through safer street design and increased enforcement. Among the city’s efforts are the implementation of High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) signals, pedestrian bump-outs, enhanced crosswalks, bicycle lanes, and targeted traffic enforcement based on speed and crash data analysis.

Members of the Stamford Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit attended the event to accept the award on behalf of the city and the department. These improvements, part of a larger strategy to make Stamford’s streets safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike, have been central to the city’s Vision Zero goals.

AAA Northeast’s recognition of Stamford underscores the city’s proactive stance on traffic safety and its ongoing commitment to reducing accidents and enhancing mobility for all residents.
