Stray Bullet Kills 66-year-old Car Driver, Causes Devastating Crash in Queens Intersection after Fatality

On Monday, a driver was shot and killed in Queens. His car lost control and crashed into a building, killing a woman who was crossing the street.

The tragic chain of events began at approximately 4 o’clock in the afternoon when William Alcindor, a 66-year-old driver, was reportedly hit in the head by a bullet as he was passing at the intersection of 117th Road and Farmers Blvd. in St. Albans.

“I heard the bang. It was the car crashing into the building across the street,” said Roberto Tendilla, 32, manager of A&E supermarket near the intersection. “It was crazy. I’ve never seen anything like it in the 17 years I’ve worked here.”

The vehicle was hit by a stray bullet, according to many witnesses. The bullet originated from a brawl between a group of youths in the parking lot of a neighboring Popeye’s, and the driver may not have been the original target.

A law enforcement source informed the Daily News that the incident seemed to be unplanned.

“The kids who shot him started to run that way,” Tendilla said, pointing in the direction of 177th Road.

“There was a shot and a bunch of kids fighting in the parking lot,” said another witness who did not want to share their name. “He went up onto the sidewalk and crashed into the building.” The driver “was all bloody,” they added.

According to authorities, Alcindor was declared deceased after being taken to Jamaica Hospital by emergency medical technicians on Monday night.

Officers were unable to provide details regarding the pedestrian’s condition at this time, however they did confirm that the motorist crashed into her after being shot.

They are still looking into it.
