Suffolk County Officials Announce Arrests in Car Takeover Incident


Islip, NY- Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, along with Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney, Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon, and Deputy Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina, held a press conference to announce the arrests of two individuals involved in a car takeover incident.

Following a police investigation, a 21-year-old man from Brooklyn and a 20-year-old man from Westbury were arrested for their participation in a street takeover. This incident, which occurred in Islip on Friday, involved an officer being assaulted and dragged by a vehicle. The charges against the Brooklyn individual include Assault 2nd Degree, Reckless Endangerment 1st and 2nd Degree, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Unlawful Speed Contests, Sideshows, and Races. The Westbury suspect faces charges of Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree and Unlawful Speed Contests, Sideshows, and Races.

Officials used the opportunity to announce the creation of a new Street Takeover Task Force to address and curb such dangerous actions in the future.
