New York’s Sufford CountyThis week, the Suffolk County Police Department and the Nassau County Police Department worked together to offer Thanksgiving meals and necessities to hundreds of veterans who were in need.
At the Veterans Stand Down ceremony earlier this week at the Freeport Armory, officers from both departments joined forces to provide over 500 veterans with winter boots, pillows, turkeys, and other essentials.
In a Thanksgiving social media post, the Suffolk County Police Department thanked those who had served and said, “Some of our local veterans are going to be eating well today.”
The Stand Down event is a component of a broader community-wide effort to help veterans, especially over the holidays. To make sure that veterans receive support and acknowledgement for their contributions, local police departments, veterans organizations, and community groups frequently collaborate.
Thank you for your service and happy Thanksgiving to all veterans! In their message, Suffolk County Police added.
