Suspect arrested in fatal Northeast D.C. shooting of 44-year-old man




Washington, D.C. Members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force detained a man Friday who is wanted in relation to the September shooting death of a resident of Northeast D.C.

Officers discovered 44-year-old Erik Mewborn unconscious and shot on September 14 after responding to the 2200 block of Adams Place Northeast at around 5:08 a.m. There were no signs of life, thus D.C. Fire and EMS declared Mewborn dead at the scene.

Authorities found and detained Jeremiah Simms, 25, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, on November 22. A warrant issued by the D.C. Superior Court charged Simms with second-degree murder while armed.

The investigation is still underway, according to the Metropolitan Police Department, which also declined to comment on any probable motivation or other individuals.
