Virginia Beach, Virginia Virginia Beach Police said Thursday that a 17-year-old male has been taken into custody and charged in relation to the gunshot death of another 17-year-old on Schoolhouse Road earlier this week.
Due to his age, the suspect’s name has not been made public. He was arrested on December 5 and charged with first-degree murder and using a handgun to commit a felony. The arrest comes after an investigation into the gunshot that killed a Chesapeake youngster on December 2.
When officers arrived in the 5700 block of Schoolhouse Road at 8:59 p.m. on Monday, they discovered that the victim had been shot. After being taken to a nearby hospital, he passed away from his wounds.
Paul Neudigate, the chief of police of Virginia Beach, voiced his concern about the ongoing issue of youth gun violence. Even though there has been a 48% drop in killings overall since 2023, Neudigate stated that the number of homicides involving minors is still concerning. Six homicides this year have included minors, making up 50% of all homicides in the city.
In addition to keeping a close eye on their adolescent’s behavior and social interactions, Neudigate advised parents and guardians to have candid conversations with their children about the consequences of their actions.
