PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — An 18-year-old male was shot early Saturday in what police are investigating as a possible interrupted burglary in Northeast Philadelphia. The incident occurred shortly after midnight in an alleyway behind the 1400 block of Benner Street, according to authorities.
Officers from the 2nd District responded to a report of a “Person with a Gun” at around 12:25 a.m. Upon their arrival, they learned that the victim had already been transported by his mother to Jeanes Hospital with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen, police said. The victim was later stabilized and transferred to Temple Hospital for further treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that three male suspects approached the rear of the victim’s residence. One of the suspects forced entry by kicking in the back door, authorities said. As two of the suspects attempted to enter, they retreated into the alleyway, where they encountered the victim returning home.
One of the suspects opened fire, striking the victim in the stomach, police stated. The three suspects then fled westbound through the alleyway.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to determine whether the incident was an interrupted burglary attempt.
