Teen Posted Shooting and Violence Threat to School on Social Media Post; Arrested in Florida

A 14-year-old girl has been arrested and is now facing serious charges in relation to alleged online threats made against multiple Broward County schools, according to authorities.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office has reported that a teenager was apprehended on Saturday evening by detectives from BSO’s Threat Management Unit, along with the assistance of several law enforcement partners.

Parents of students at Broward County schools were informed of an arrest through a recorded message on Sunday.

The worried parents expressed that this new development further amplifies their concerns about sending their child to school. They reside just a few blocks away from Plantation High School, which was mentioned as a potential target in one of the posts.

“A social media threat posted this weekend identifying specific Broward County public schools has been neutralized,” the message stated

According to investigators, the student shared several stories on Instagram over the weekend that included threatening content. A disturbing post identified multiple schools in the county that were threatened with violence, including Park Lakes Elementary, Lauderdale Lakes Middle, and Dillard High.

Several other posts included disturbing content, such as threats of a potential school shooting or other acts of violence. One post even featured an image of a hand holding a gun, while another made reference to the tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, which resulted in the loss of four lives.

Following reports from multiple sources, BSO detectives collaborated with Fort Lauderdale Police, Plantation Police, and Broward County Public Schools Police. Shortly after, authorities were able to track down the source of the threats to a teenager living in Lauderdale Lakes.
