The Shootings and Pursuit
Deputies from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office were on patrol in an area of unincorporated Boulder County at approximately 10:50 p.m. on Sunday after receiving many complaints of individuals firing rifles and handguns from moving cars. Officers reported gunshots close to the intersection of Oxford Road and 119th Street, prompting them to increase patrols in an effort to stop these deadly situations.
As the suspect car drove north on 119th Street, one deputy noticed it firing bullets. The car continued its careless course toward the City of Longmont, and the sheriff’s office soon started chasing it. Longmont Police did not take part in the chase, but when the car finally stopped close to the 300 block of South Sunset Street, authorities helped.
Arrest and Charges
Two young lads were arrested when they stopped. Following a check of the suspects and the car, a handgun and multiple rounds of ammunition were found. The boys’ names have not been made public by authorities, but they face significant charges. Eluding, reckless driving, driving without a valid license, five counts of unlawful use of a firearm, five counts of juvenile handgun possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia are among the charges they are currently facing.
Although there were fortunately no injuries reported after the incident, these two boys’ actions show the dangerous repercussions of acting recklessly.
Motive Still Unknown
Investigators are still unsure of what the young people were firing at during their journey or why they picked the region.
