A Tennessee grandmother offers seven ingenious home tips that employ commonplace objects to simplify organizing and cleaning.#Tennessee #News #NashvilleTN #Lifestyle
Nashville, TennesseeIn the afternoon, my husband Jack and I were volunteering at our Franklin, Tennessee, church. We met Ethel, a gregarious elderly woman who had a remedy for every issue, when we were cleaning up the kitchen. She’s like the MacGyver of home goods, really. Before we knew it, Ethel was giving advice that might help anyone avoid headaches, waste time, and spend less money. You deserve an easy life, therefore now I’m giving you her best advise! Hehe.
1. Vinegar for Sparkling Windows
Ethel uses vinegar to clean mirrors and windows. Using a spray bottle, combine equal parts water and vinegar, mist the surface, then use a microfiber cloth to clean it. Just shine, no streaks!
2. Baking Soda to Unclog Drains
Is your sink clogged? Baking soda is Ethel’s go-to solution. Pour half a cup of vinegar and half a cup of baking soda down the drain. After ten to fifteen minutes of fizzing, rinse with hot water.
3. Lemon Peels for a Fresh-Smelling Garbage Disposal
Never throw away lemon peels without first giving them a job, according to Ethel. Let the natural oils clean and deodorize the blades by dropping them into your garbage disposal and turning them on.
4. Coffee Grounds to Eliminate Fridge Odors
If your refrigerator has an unpleasant odor, Ethel’s cure is easy to follow. If you put a bowl of spent coffee grinds inside, the smells will quickly be absorbed.
5. Toothpaste to Polish Silver
Ethel disclosed the silver-polishing secret of plain white toothpaste. For a glossy finish, dab a tiny bit onto tarnished spots, massage gently, rinse, and pat dry.
6. Rice to Clean Narrow Bottles
Do you have a bottle that is uncleanable? Ethel recommends adding a drop of dish soap, water, and rice. The grains will clean the interior for you if you swirl it around.
7. Aluminum Foil for Scrubbing Pans
Ethel says crumpled aluminum foil works just as well if you don’t have any steel wool. It is ideal for removing stubborn baked-on residue.
8. Salt to Clean Cast Iron Pans
Ethel is adamant that soap must not come into contact with your cast iron. To remove food residue, she uses a paper towel or cloth to scrape the pan after adding coarse salt.
9. Olive Oil to Shine Wood Furniture
Ethel creates a do-it-yourself furniture polish by combining equal parts lemon juice and olive oil. To bring back the natural sheen of wood, apply it with a gentle cloth.
10. Cornstarch to Freshen Up Carpets
Ethel advises spreading cornstarch over the carpet, letting it set for half an hour, and then vacuuming it up to get rid of odors. Your carpet will feel softer and have a new scent.
Tricks To Make Life Easier!
I’ve saved countless lives thanks to Ethel’s guidance. Please let me know how any of these work for you if you give them a try. Ask Ethel how sometimes the simplest tips can make life so much easier!
