AUBURN, WHAT?In Auburn, Washington, two men had a terrifying near-death experience when their tractor-trailer got trapped on railroad lines just as an Amtrak train sped by. Although their lives may have been spared due to their prompt choice to jump off the vehicle, onlookers were rattled by the terrifying event.
Wrong Turn Leads to Dangerous Predicament
Around 10:18 a.m. on Saturday, the tumultuous scene broke out on B Street NW.
As a southbound Amtrak train with 157 passengers neared, the semi-truck got stuck on the rails, according to the Auburn Police Department. Before the train hit their car, the driver and passenger were able to jump to safety.
The truck’s occupants, Chris B. and Arkeen Young, claimed that the experience started when their phone’s GPS led them to take an incorrect turn. They ended themselves in a precarious situation where they were sandwiched between the tracks and another tractor-trailer.
I just jumped out since the train was right there when I looked over. Yes, Young stated, “I had a good three seconds to get out because it was so close.”
Foggy Conditions Added to the Danger
On Saturday morning, the area was covered in thick fog, which made it difficult to see the incoming train.
It was quite hazy. Chris B. stated that the lights were the only thing visible from the train.
We had no idea how quickly it was approaching. I anticipated it. I’m not sure how quickly. Trains must be moving, I know that.
Train Service Disruptions
The violent accident was caught on camera by a bystander and uploaded on YouTube. In the video, a man can be seen sprinting a few feet from the spot where the train destroyed the truck, sending metal pieces flying.
Amtrak trains between Seattle and Tacoma experienced delays as a result of the collision.
Delays resulted from cleanup workers trying to remove debris and evaluate the damage. No crew or passenger injuries were recorded in spite of the mayhem.
