Texas Court Seals Records in Ken Paxton’s Divorce Case

A day after his wife, State Senator Angela Paxton, filed a petition accusing Mr. Paxton of adultery, a state judge on Friday ordered the sealing of documents in the divorce of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Following a request from Mrs. Paxton’s attorney, the 429th District Court in Collin County, north of Dallas, ordered the sealing of the case’s documents. This implies that the public would not have access to more information regarding the well-publicized divide in a case that might have a big impact on the Texas U.S. Senate campaign.

In the 2026 Republican primary, Mr. Paxton, a fiery conservative who is well-liked by Republicans, is running against Senator John Cornyn. In public polling, Mr. Paxton has been in the lead.

Mrs. Paxton stated in a statement on Thursday that she had filed for divorce on biblical grounds and in light of recent revelations, implying that recent developments in their relationship had influenced her choice. According to the divorce petition, Mr. Paxton’s adultery was one of the grounds for the divorce, and the couple had not lived together since June 2024.

In his own statement on Thursday, Mr. Paxton said that the couple’s relationship was stressed due to the demands of public life and numerous political attacks. He requested privacy.

In Texas, the divorce news was unexpected. Despite years of criminal investigations, a state court indictment for securities fraud, and an impeachment at the State Capitol where Mr. Paxton was accused of abusing his position by performing favors for a real estate investor who assisted him in hiding an extramarital affair, Mrs. Paxton had stuck by her husband’s side.
