Austin, Texas The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a prolonged extreme cold warning for Central Texas, predicting dangerously low wind chills through Thursday at noon.
Wind chills might fall as low as two degrees below zero in the impacted areas, which include Austin, San Antonio, San Marcos, Georgetown, and the neighboring Hill Country and I-35 Corridor districts.
The NWS predicts that the coldest temperatures will be experienced tonight and in the early morning, putting people who are exposed to the weather at higher risk of hypothermia and frostbite. It is recommended that residents restrict their exposure to the outdoors, use gloves and helmets, and layer their clothing.
In order to avoid fires or carbon monoxide poisoning, officials also suggest keeping an eye on senior neighbors, making sure pets stay inside, and using space heaters responsibly.
Roads, electrical grids, and other infrastructure may be affected by this unusually cold temperature for the area. Keep abreast of the most recent weather warnings and take the appropriate safety measures.
Keep an eye on local emergency management organizations or the National Weather Service for real-time updates.
