Washington In honor of their last season in the presidential house, the Biden family unveiled its 2024 White House holiday decorations this week, featuring a display titled Season of Peace and Light. The d cor, which takes place in all public rooms, blends old customs with first lady Jill Biden’s personal touches and what some critics have referred to as somewhat unconventional components.
A departure from the sophistication of previous White House Christmas decorations, some have even referred to the displays as gaudy.
The President and First Lady characterized the displays as a reflection of faith, family, service to our nation, neighborly kindness, and the strength of community in a commemorative guide for the season. From the White House Library’s antique ceramic Christmas trees to the Blue space’s official Christmas tree’s whimsical candy-themed ornaments, every space has a tale to tell.
Brightly colored candy ornaments and a carousel of state names adorn the 18-foot Fraser fir in the Blue Room, which serves as the focal point of the holiday décor. The China Room pays homage to baking traditions with artisanal bread and a baker’s bench, while the East Room’s reflective ceiling canopy simulates snowfall.
One of the highlights is the yearly Gingerbread White House, which this year has an image of ice skaters on the South Lawn and a luminous starburst over the sugary facsimile. Although the East Colonnade’s brass and sleigh bell exhibit has garnered a lot of attention due to its eye-catching appearance, some tourists have criticized it for being excessive.
The holiday tour still includes poignant traditional components, including the Gold Star Trees remembering dead service members. A homage to history and interfaith inclusivity may be seen in the Cross Hall Menorah, which was constructed from wood that was salvaged during the White House renovations during the Truman administration.
