Thursday Morning New Jersey Commuter Report Shows Delays and Congestion Across North Jersey

Elizabeth, New Jersey. On Wednesday, a number of accidents and high traffic jammed major roads in New Jersey, causing considerable delays for morning commuters.

As of 8:27 a.m., traffic was slowed down due to a collision on the New Jersey Turnpike’s outer carriageway northbound near Interchange 13A by Newark Liberty International Airport in Elizabeth, which obstructed both shoulders. The George Washington Bridge was beset by delays further north, with eastbound travel times between I-80 and the Alexander Hamilton Bridge reaching 50 minutes on the upper level and 35 minutes on the lower level.

As of 8:23 a.m., a disabled vehicle in the middle of the southbound tube of the Lincoln Tunnel in Weehawken had blocked one right lane, adding to the delays for traffic going into Manhattan. Congestion on I-287 southbound resulted in travel delays of up to 15 minutes between Piscataway and Edison, and a collision at Bridgewater’s Exit 14 for US-22 restricted one right lane.

There was a two-mile backup on the New Jersey Turnpike’s Eastern Spur northbound from the Southern Mixing Bowl to close to Interchange 15W for I-280 in Newark, among other volume-related delays. Additionally, an earlier incident caused a four-mile wait on the Garden State Parkway northbound between Berkeley Township’s Exit 77 to Exit 81.

Along with both lanes of NJ 17 in Wood-Ridge and Rochelle Park, other significant roads impacted by congestion included NJ 29 in Trenton, NJ 18 in East Brunswick, and US 1 in West Windsor. Along NJ 24 between Millburn, Florham Park, and Hanover Township, delays of ten to twenty minutes were recorded.

Additionally, commuters experienced slower travel on I-287 southbound between Bridgewater and Piscataway and on I-76 westbound near Bellmawr and Gloucester City. Due to the high volume and numerous incidents, drivers were cautioned to expect long morning travel times.
