Toms River Fire Bureau marks 50th anniversary with symposium, honors founding chief


TOMS RIVER, N.J. — The Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention celebrated its 50th anniversary on Wednesday with a Fire Service Symposium featuring expert speakers and a special recognition ceremony. The event highlighted five decades of advancements in firefighting, code enforcement, and community safety.

Attendees heard presentations on a range of topics, including fire investigation techniques by Captain Bob Disbrow and the challenges of new hybrid commercial and residential structures from Retired Battalion Chief Joe Vallo. Fire Marshal Paul Dansbach delivered insights on the evolution of firefighting strategies and code enforcement practices over the past fifty years.

The symposium also included a special moment honoring Chief John F. Lightbody, a key figure in the bureau’s establishment. The Bureau retired badge number 930 in recognition of Lightbody’s contributions to building and shaping the agency.
