A woman from Alabama lost her life in a devastating accident recently when she was hit by debris while riding as a passenger in a vehicle on the highway, according to local media sources.
According to WSFA, Earlie Harris’ son was tragically driving her to work on Interstate 65 when a wrench unexpectedly flew through the windshield, resulting in her untimely death on Aug. 8.
“All of a sudden, something flew through the window,” her son, Cedric, told the outlet. “I ducked down and looked up, and my mom was bleeding, and I pulled off the interstate.”
First responders, including Montgomery police, quickly arrived at the scene and tragically found that the 58-year-old had suffered fatal injuries. She was declared deceased at the location.
The origin of the wrench that was found on the highway remains uncertain, although the family suspects it may have come from a passing truck, according to the report.
The Montgomery Police Department provided an update to USA TODAY, stating that an investigation is currently underway and no new information is available at this time.
Harris’ family and friends have turned to social media, urging the public to reach out to law enforcement if they have any information that could help solve the case. According to WSFA, the family is collaborating with Beasley Allen Law Firm and their attorneys have announced a $1,000 reward.
“A huge metal object/wrench went through the windshield, killing our client as she traveled southbound,” the law firm said in a statement. “We are offering a reward for the positive ID of the northbound driver responsible for the metal object/ wrench.”
According to Attorney LaBarron Boone, there may be drivers who witnessed the incident of the tool falling on the road.
Cedric affectionately referred to his mother as the pillar that holds their family together.
