Two in New City Sentenced for Murder of Grandfather


New York City The Rockland County District Attorney announced the sentencing of Constantinos Doonan and Jo-Ann Haughey of New City, NY, for the killing of Constantinos Mastakouris. Haughey was charged with first-degree manslaughter, while Doonan is accused with second-degree murder.

Both of them were engaged in Mastakouris’s death by strangulation at his Ruth Drive residence between January 29 and January 30, 2023. His possessions, including jewelry and a car, were taken, and his body was hidden in the basement.

“The crime was an unthinkable act that devastated the family,” said District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II. He commended the Clarkstown Police Department’s investigation efforts.

Haughey was given a 15-year prison term, and Doonan was given a 20-year to life sentence. Supervising Assistant District Attorney Sharleen Bailon and Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Dominic Crispino prosecuted the case.
