Two juveniles arrested in armed carjacking on Piedmont Avenue

MDA BALTIMORE Another incident involving chronic juvenile offenders occurred Saturday night when a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old were taken into custody after an armed carjacking on the 3400 block of Piedmont Avenue in Northwest Baltimore.

Officers from the Northwest District responded to the armed robbery at approximately 11:05 p.m. The stolen vehicle was promptly located by members of the Regional Auto Theft Taskforce, assisted by Foxtrot and County Aviation units.

Officers quickly caught both of the youths when they tried to escape from the car. After being brought to the Juvenile Justice Center, authorities requested that the suspects be placed under arrest. Even though the 15-year-old had six previous offenses, including charges for violence, auto theft, and handgun infractions, both were released on monitoring.

While authorities attempt to address recidivism and public safety, the arrests underscore persistent worries about adolescent violence in Baltimore.

Anyone with additional information regarding the event is urged to call Baltimore police at 410-396-2444 or use the Metro Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-866-7LOCKUP to submit an anonymous tip.
