Two People Injured As Houma Man Allegedly Enters in Schriever Home with Hammer

Two People Injured As Houma Man Allegedly Enters in Schriever Home with Hammer

Reading about what transpired in Schriever this week made me feel cold.

Two men, one of whom was elderly, were assaulted with a hammer inside their own house during a horrifying home invasion; it wasn’t just another crime report. The suspect? A 49-year-old Houma resident is currently detained without bond. What about the assault? allegedly violent, personal, and intentional.

It took place on July 22 shortly after 9 p.m. Small-town neighborhood, quiet night, until screams pierced the walls. Deputies did not discover a suspect hiding or running when they got there. Rather, the man was being held at gunpoint by neighbors who had already entered the house.

You can see from that picture how abrupt and serious this occurrence was.

The scene was regarded as unsettling by the sheriff’s office. And to be honest, that word doesn’t even begin to describe it.

What Really Happened Inside That Schriever Home?

Over the years, I’ve covered a lot of crime stories, but this one stands out. Someone with a hammer bursts into your house as you’re getting ready for bed or watching TV. In Schriever, that is precisely what took place.

Brian Joseph Guillotte, 49, broke into the house and immediately started acting violently, according to Fox 8 Live. Instead of breaking in to steal or threaten, he used a hammer to strike two guys, one of whom was old. The aftermath was characterized by deputies as a “scary scene,” and it doesn’t even begin to express the ordeal the victims must have endured.

Now picture yourself as a neighbor who can hear the commotion. Are you waiting? Or do you enter quickly? The second option was selected by these neighbors. In order to prevent the attack from going worse, they walked inside, held Guillotte at gunpoint, and did more than just dial 911.

This might have easily become a double homicide if they hadn’t intervened.

Two Victims, One Still Fighting to Recover

It’s easy to get caught up in the headline and overlook the individuals at the heart of it, so I want to take a moment to speak about the victims.

Both males had severe injuries. The wounded were flown for immediate medical attention following the attack, according to WWL TV. The older man is still in critical condition at the hospital. Fortunately, the other has already been released from the hospital following treatment for mild injuries.

What surprised me, though, is that neither man has been officially identified. Even though it’s common in ongoing investigations, it adds a personal touch to this. In a matter of seconds, the lives of these two individuals were ripped apart. Furthermore, one of them is still recuperating from an incident that no one should ever have to go through.

This is particularly painful if you have elderly parents or neighbors. What if it was someone I cared about? you ask yourself.

Has there ever been a house invasion in your community that you have seen or heard about? Please share your thoughts below; now more than ever, this kind of dialogue is important.

Who Is Brian Joseph Guillotte and Why Did He Do This?

We still don’t know a lot, so this phase is difficult.

Although not much about Guillotte’s past has been made public by the sheriff’s office, we do know that he is from Houma and has a history of legal issues. He was really already wanted for missing an earlier court appearance. He is currently being charged with house invasion and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Then there’s the fundamental question that remains unanswered: why?

Whether Guillotte knew the victims or what caused the attack has not been confirmed by officials. However, they did describe it as deliberate, which speaks volumes. This was not impulsive nor random. He had a weapon and a purpose when he entered that residence.

Like me, you’re probably thinking if this was a drug issue, a personal issue, or something else entirely. We’re in the dark for the time being. However, the absence of motivation just heightens the unnerving atmosphere of this tale.

I’ve been watching a few channels lately that provide real-time safety alerts and crime reports from various neighborhoods; occasionally, they break stories before the news does. To be honest, it has altered the way I remain vigilant.

The Charges, the Judge, and What Comes Next

The legal system works quickly, but the specifics are important, so let’s break this down.

Guillotte is formally charged with several offenses:

  • Two counts of attempted first-degree murder
  • Home invasion (a felony in Louisiana)
  • Failure to appear in a previous case

I can tell from that last allegation that he has previously dealt with law enforcement.

Judge Timothy Ellender Jr., a local judge, wasted no time. Guillotte will not be able to leave jail while this case is pending because he was ordered to be kept without bond. Although it’s uncommon, it seems important in this particular situation.

The court process now starts with evidence, hearings, and a potential trial. Additionally, Guillotte can spend decades in prison if found guilty. Life, perhaps.

As evidence of how inventive and risky these break-ins can be, a similar house invasion in Florida recently made headlines with suspects impersonating Amazon delivery drivers.

What the Sheriff s Office Had to Say and Why It Matters?

Law enforcement statements are not usually emotional. However, this one did.

Sheriff Tim Soignet commended the community for responding morally and his deputies for their prompt action. He noted in an official statement that if they hadn’t acted quickly, this incident might have turned out very differently.

Additionally, he urged the public to be patient and peaceful, particularly for the impacted families. And I was struck by that. These incidents have an impact on the entire community, not just the residents of the house.

Even if you don’t live in Schriever or Houma, incidents like this serve as a reminder to everyone that unity is crucial and that things may fall apart very quickly in any small community.

Why This Case Feels Different And Deeply Disturbing

We always hear about crime, let’s face it. However, certain situations simply feel more intimate. One of them is this.

I believe it’s because of how violent it is. You don’t use a hammer as a weapon from a distance. It’s deliberate, harsh, and close-range. Deputies said that instead of just entering the residence, Guillotte attacked the victims with enough force to send one of them to the hospital, where he fought for his life.

The target, an older man, comes next. It s hard to imagine what kind of anger or motive pushes someone to that point. When I picture someone harming an older neighbor, I don t see just a crime I see a line being crossed.

This type of story strikes a different chord if you have ever been concerned for your family’s safety or your own.

In Iowa,a shocking case surfaced where a mother and son were arrested for a violent home invasion, proving that these attacks can come from unexpected people and situations.

Staying Safe: What You and I Can Actually Do?

I don t want this just to be another horror story. Let s talk about what you and I can do because it s not about paranoia, it s about preparation.

Here s what I d recommend if you re thinking about your home s security right now:

  • Secure all entry points.

Make sure your doors and windows have proper locks and use them.

  • Install motion-activated lights or cameras.

It s not just for catching intruders it can deter them before they try.

  • Talk to your neighbors.

Create a text group or neighborhood chat so you re connected.

  • Check in on the elderly.

If you ve got older neighbors or family, make sure they re safe and know who to call in an emergency.

  • Have emergency numbers ready.

Local sheriff s office, trusted neighbors, even backup contacts.

Meanwhile, in Los Angeles,a 14-year-old was shot by a homeowner during an attempted break-in, a case that sparked debates around self-defense and home protection laws.

What Comes Next and What This Case Could Mean?

Right now, Guillotte is sitting in jail with no bond, facing charges that could put him away for life.

The sheriff s office says the investigation is ongoing, and more information may come out in court especially around the motive or relationship between Guillotte and the victims. Until then, the community waits.

But here s what I hope doesn t get lost: two people survived something horrific. And they did so because of quick-thinking neighbors and fast-responding deputies. That matters.

If you re following this case from Schriever, Houma, or anywhere else, keep paying attention. Because sometimes justice isn t just about the courtroom it s about what a community chooses to remember.
