After reportedly tricking her patient into believing she had terminal cancer and giving her a lethal dose of insulin in an effort to collect the victim’s $1.5 million life insurance policy, a registered nurse was taken into custody and charged with aggravated murder.
According to court documents, Meggan Randall Sundwall, 47, was taken into custody on Thursday in relation to the death of Kacee Lyn Terry, 38, who passed away after receiving an unapproved dose of insulin injections during the summer.
Terry was found unresponsive after authorities were summoned to a Highland, Utah, residence on August 12, 2024, which led to the arrest.
According to Terry’s uncle Mark Farnsworth, who called, he discovered his niece unconscious and gasping for air, as though she were drowning. He also mentioned that she had “major, major health issues.”
Sundwall was discovered by police in the bedroom by herself with Terry, who stated that she had been in that state for “a couple of hours.”
Sundwall then informed officers that the victim had signed a do-not-resuscitate order and did not want to be taken to the hospital. The victim was said to have had terminal cancer for the previous four to five years.
Investigators discovered that Terry was not diabetic, despite the report stating that paramedics discovered a diabetic needle.
Terry was taken to Mountain Point Hospital in Lehi, where paramedics discovered that her blood sugar level was 14—much lower than the 40 that detectives say is life-threatening.
According to the outlet, her sister told medics that Terry had terminal cancer for the previous four to five years while Terry was receiving treatment in the intensive care unit. Terry’s primary care physician, however, informed the family that she had never had cancer.
The doctor’s conclusions would also be supported by an autopsy, which would show Terry never had cancer or any other serious illnesses.
Nearly three days after the first 911 call, on August 15, 2024, Terry passed away after physicians pronounced him brain dead.
The investigation also found that Terry’s name was never associated with a do-not-resuscitate order, and no documentation identified Sundwall as the victim’s power of attorney.
Investigators were informed by Terry’s family that they had long suspected Sundwall of planning Terry’s murder. In support of the families’ concerns, detectives even found evidence on the victim’s phone that revealed a series of texts starting in December 2019.

Over the course of four years, Sundwall allegedly offered to “help” her die and talked about how Terry’s death would solve all of her financial issues, according to more than 28,000 messages between the two women, according to detectives.
Sundwall allegedly searched Terry’s phone for her life insurance policy after she passed away and erased over 900 texts.
Investigators said that Sundwall thought she was the beneficiary of a fictitious $1.5 million life insurance policy that Terry owned.
Sundwall is being held without bond after being taken into custody and charged with first-degree aggravated murder and third-degree obstruction of justice at Utah County Jail.
