UTICA, N.Y.According to the Utica Police Department, a 47-year-old man has been taken into custody and accused in relation to a burglary that occurred in December 2024, during which tools and equipment were taken from a house and garage.
The victim said that someone he knew but was unable to properly identify had broken into his property on December 20, 2024. The victim claimed that after letting the suspect borrow something in the past, he discovered the suspect taking things out of his garage. The culprit left the scene when confronted.
The Criminal Investigations Division was given the investigation and successfully identified the suspect as Utica resident Robert Spano, 47. Officers from the Community Outreach Team identified Spano on January 15, 2025, after the Mohawk Valley Crime Analysis Center issued a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert.
After being taken to the Utica Police Department, Spano was questioned and charged with petty larceny and second-degree burglary.
No more information on the stolen items has been released by the police.
