Utica police arrest suspect in Purple Haze Smoke Shop shooting




UTICA, N.Y.The Utica Police Department said Wednesday that a 41-year-old man has been taken into custody and charged in relation to a shooting that occurred earlier this month at the Purple Haze Smoke Shop on South Street.

During a vehicle stop on November 20, Utica police patrol units and members of the NY/NJ U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force apprehended Pablo Goico, a resident of Utica. He faces charges of second-degree attempted murder and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

The department’s Major Crimes Unit conducted a thorough investigation into the incident, which took place on November 8. A picture of the suspect wearing a black outfit was earlier made public by authorities, who requested help in identifying him.

After being taken into custody, Goico was charged and taken to the Utica Police Department. Additional information regarding the incident and the shooting’s motivation has not been made public by authorities.

Police are still working to strengthen their evidence against the suspect, therefore the investigation is still ongoing.
