Ventnor man sentenced to prison for 2021 stabbing in Absecon park

MAYS LANDING, N.J. — A Ventnor resident has been sentenced to three years in New Jersey State Prison following a 2021 stabbing incident at a park in Absecon, authorities announced.

William Clanton, 24, received the sentence on November 7, 2024, for third-degree aggravated assault. The charges stem from a violent encounter that took place on January 1, 2021, at Field of Dreams Park in Absecon. Police responding to the scene found a victim suffering from multiple stab wounds to the head, throat, arm, and abdomen.

According to the Absecon Police Department, officers provided emergency medical assistance at the scene, and the victim was subsequently transported to a hospital, where he survived the injuries. Clanton was apprehended at the park with two knives in his possession and later admitted to stabbing the victim during an altercation.

The investigation was a joint effort between the Absecon Police Department and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit. Clanton’s three-year sentence reflects the seriousness of the assault and the ongoing commitment of local law enforcement to address violent crime in the community.
