Vermont Weather Alert: Snow Targets I-89 in Burlington Now Through Monday

VTA Burlington Beginning on Friday, a sharp change in weather patterns could bring fresh snowfall to much of Vermont. On I-89, drivers should prepare for slick conditions and decreased visibility. Before leaving, state officials advise everyone to check the state of the roads. It’s important to use caution on hills and ramps since warmer midday temperatures may cause mixed precipitation.

The National Weather Service predicts that Friday will have partly clear skies, but by early Saturday, snowfall may accumulate overnight. Snowfall in most areas can range from one to four inches, with higher elevations potentially receiving up to seven inches. Snow may drift down key routes due to the expected increase in winds. It is advised to slow down and increase stopping distance in order to avoid collisions.

The forecast for Saturday indicates that there may be a brief spell of rain mixed with snow, which would make driving more difficult. Wet roads may quickly freeze once the sun sets as temperatures rise to the mid-30s. The maximum temperature in Vermont is still in the mid-teens, but brighter skies are possible by Sunday. With a little temperature comeback into the low 20s on Monday, the weather appears drier. The temperature is predicted to rise much further on Tuesday, reaching highs in the upper 30s.

Residents are encouraged by the local government to stock up on necessities like driveway sand or salt. Keep an emergency kit with blankets, flashlights, and extra food in your car if you have to travel. Spring will arrive soon, with March approaching, yet winter’s last few days can still be rather powerful. Keep an eye out for any weather updates, and keep an eye on the local media to see how things are changing.
