Woman arrested for stealing packages from D.C. apartment building

Washington, D.C. According to authorities, a 62-year-old woman was taken into custody on Monday after reportedly taking goods from the entrance of a Northwest Washington apartment complex.

A report of package theft prompted officers to respond to the 1600 block of Fuller Street Northwest. Authorities said they found the woman carrying the stolen products in a shopping cart a short while later.

The defendant was arrested and charged with Theft Two, a misdemeanor in D.C., after being identified as Maricia Tyson of Northwest.

The Sixth District Substation and Amazon lockers at all seven district stations are among the tools the Metropolitan Police Department reminded locals of to help prevent package theft. To lessen the chance of theft, residents were also urged to keep an eye on deliveries, set up safe drop-off spots, or have packages delivered to their places of employment.
