Woman Successfully Fights Off Sexual Assault Attempt Following Collision in Ottawa County

A woman managed to escape and contacted emergency services after a Muskegon man reportedly pursued her, collided with her vehicle, and assaulted her in a gas station parking lot along US-31, as stated by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities responded to a report of a sexual assault on US-31 close to Stanton Street around 8:05 p.m. on Sunday. A recent investigation revealed that a 60-year-old man was reportedly tailing a woman as she traveled south on US-31 from Grand Haven.

He reportedly struck the woman’s Jeep close to US-31 and Lake Michigan Drive, and proceeded to tail her until she entered a gas station near US-31 and Stanton Street, believing that the man intended to report the accident to the authorities.

However, when both drivers exited their vehicles, the man engaged in physical assault against the woman and behaved inappropriately, according to deputies.

A woman successfully defended herself against a 60-year-old assailant, managing to escape and contact 911, sustaining only minor injuries during the encounter, as reported by the Sheriff’s Office.

The individual, aged 60, made a swift escape prior to the arrival of law enforcement officials.

Authorities successfully tracked down the 60-year-old suspect and took him into custody in Muskegon on Monday.

He is currently incarcerated in the Muskegon County Jail due to a breach of parole conditions.

Deputies reported that charges related to the suspected assault are forthcoming, and the identity of the individual will remain undisclosed.
