Woodbridge woman escapes attempted abduction, 16-year-old suspect arrested


WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A 21-year-old woman narrowly escaped an attempted abduction and assault in Woodbridge on Sunday afternoon, thanks to quick actions and the help of passing motorists, police say.

The incident occurred around 12:24 p.m. as the woman was walking along Blackburn Road near Delaware Drive. According to officials, she was grabbed from behind by a 16-year-old male who attempted to drag her into a nearby wooded area.

The woman managed to break free and flagged down a motorist for help. Moments later, she signaled to another driver, who turned out to be a police officer. The officer was able to quickly locate and arrest the suspect.


The 16-year-old, whose name has not been released, faces multiple charges including abduction with intent to defile, attempted rape, assault and battery, and public intoxication.
