San Antonio, Texas — A major U.S. grocery chain has issued a product recall involving a popular dairy-free yogurt after it was found to contain an undeclared allergen that could pose serious health risks to some consumers.
According to an announcement shared Friday by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, PlantBased Innovations is recalling strawberry-flavored Higher Harvest by H-E-B Dairy-Free Coconut Yogurt due to the possible presence of almonds, which were not listed on the product label.
Undeclared Almonds Trigger Recall
The recall was initiated after a customer complaint revealed that yogurt containing almond ingredients was distributed in packaging that failed to disclose the allergen. Almonds are classified as a major food allergen in the United States, and exposure can be dangerous or even life-threatening for individuals with tree nut allergies.
The FDA noted that while no illnesses or injuries have been reported so far, the undeclared allergen presents a significant health concern for consumers who are allergic or sensitive to almonds.
Products Distributed to Texas Stores
The recalled yogurt was distributed to H-E-B distribution centers and retail grocery stores across Texas beginning November 24, 2025.
Affected products include:
- Higher Harvest by H-E-B Dairy-Free Coconut Yogurt
- Strawberry flavor
- 5.3-ounce plastic cups with foil lids
- Best By date: January 2, 2026, printed on the bottom of the cup
Consumers who purchased this product are urged to carefully check the packaging details before consumption.
Health Risks for Those With Almond Allergies
The FDA warns that almonds are part of the tree nut family, which is one of the nine major allergens recognized in the United States. These allergens include milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soybeans, wheat, fish, Crustacean shellfish, and sesame.
Allergic reactions can range from mild symptoms, such as hives or lip swelling, to severe and life-threatening reactions known as anaphylaxis. In extreme cases, anaphylaxis can cause respiratory failure, shock, and death if not treated immediately.
Because of these risks, officials stress that any consumer with an almond allergy should not eat the recalled yogurt under any circumstances.
What Consumers Should Do
Consumers who have purchased the affected yogurt are advised to:
- Stop using the product immediately if allergic to almonds
- Return the yogurt to the place of purchase for a full refund
- Contact their healthcare provider if they believe they may have experienced an allergic reaction
The FDA continues to monitor the situation and urges consumers to stay alert for recall notices involving food allergens.
Part of a Larger Pattern of Allergy-Related Recalls
This recall is the latest in a series of allergy-related food recalls affecting major brands and retailers across the U.S. in recent months.
Earlier this month, Suzanna’s Kitchen announced a nationwide recall of approximately 62,550 pounds of fully cooked, bone-in breaded chicken products due to misbranding and an undeclared soy allergen.

In another case, Silvestri Sweets Inc. recalled two varieties of Choceur-branded Holiday Bark sold at ALDI stores after a packaging mix-up caused undeclared allergens to be present. One product contained undeclared pecans, while the other contained undeclared wheat, both of which can trigger serious allergic reactions.
Importance of Accurate Food Labeling
Food safety experts emphasize that accurate ingredient labeling is critical, especially as food allergies affect millions of Americans. Even small labeling errors can have serious consequences for consumers who rely on packaging information to avoid dangerous allergens.
The FDA encourages consumers to regularly check recall notices and report any food safety concerns through official channels.
