Two Wilmington residents arrested for Middletown residential burglary

MIDDLETOWN, DELAMAR: Two Wilmington people have been taken into custody by Delaware State Police in relation to a residential burglary on Dupont Parkway, where a teenager was present when the break-in attempt occurred.

Ivis McGriff, 61, and Era Gill, 71, were arrested Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities, when McGriff was discovered trying to enter the house through the back entrance. After the adolescent inside the house called the police, they showed up at around 1:55 p.m.

After driving a gray Dodge Dakota to the residence, investigators found that McGriff had illegally entered a screened-in porch and taken out a barbecue. He then made fruitless attempts to enter the house through the front and back doors. Gill was discovered sitting in the truck that was parked in the driveway by the police.

Troopers discovered open and empty alcoholic beverage containers inside the truck and noticed symptoms of intoxication in McGriff. After checking his records, it was discovered that McGriff had been convicted of DUI three times before.

After being taken to Troop 9, both individuals were charged with several crimes. After being arraigned, McGriff was placed under a $32,000 cash bond and sent to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.

Additional information regarding the two’s intentions and potential charges against Gill has not been made public by the police.

The attempted burglary brings to light persistent issues with local household safety.
